In the not-so-distant past, Miller’s Island was a favorite destination for the fashionable citizens of Baltimore to take a break from city life, and relax or play on the Chesapeake. One of the most popular activities was to rent a rowboat from Mr. Bill! Each of the boats were hand-made, wooden works of art. Folks would row out to nearby Pleasure Island with a picnic, or enjoy a little fishing in Hawk Cove.

Millers Island is still a hidden gem for anyone wanting to escape the city for a fun time on the waterfront. It’s a short 20 minute trip from downtown Baltimore, and while the rowboat rentals are gone, you can find some of his beautiful wooden boats preserved around Rowboat Willie’s Dock Bar!

Mr. Bill is no longer around, but Rowboat Willie’s and Bill’s Boatyard & Marina, have been owned and managed by his family since 1950. His children are proud of the waterfront, their history, and taking care of the island community.
